How I work
ApproachI offer an Integrative approach to psychotherapy and counselling.
Integrative therapy draws from many sources in the belief that no one approach has all the truth, and the work must be adapted to meet each particular client's needs. I work with both adults and young people on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period.
My work is guided by psychodynamic principles denoting that the past is always present in some way and has a strong influence on our thoughts and actions. Being non-judgemental and providing a safe space for the client to go through emotional experiences are vital elements of a therapeutic setting.
I also use CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) interventions where it is needed to help the client identify and change thought and behaviour patterns.
Areas of SpecialismI have extensive experience of working with the following:
• depression
• stress/anxiety
• loss and bereavement
• eating disorder/self-harm
• trauma/abuse
• relationship problems
• cultural issues/adjustment
